Finance minister Edward Scicluna said that next year’s budget will explore means of helping low-income earners and pensioners, without raising the minimum wage. Launching the pre-budget document, Scicluna acknowledged the criticism that the government had failed to help the poorer strata of society.

Edward Scicluna expects Malta’s deficit to drop to 1.1% of GDP in 2016. The finance minister said that government revenue during 2014 stood at 42% of GDP, 0.2% than what was budget. Government expenditure stood at 44.1% of GDP.
