Spanish sailor issues distress call, rescued by AFM
60-year-old seaman found himself in difficulty in Malta’s search and rescue regional
A 60-year-old Spanish sailor was brought to safety early this morning, following the intervention of the Armed Forces of Malta’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC).
Cargo vessel Maersk Pittsburgh assisted in the operation following the distress call issued by the Spaniard who found himself in difficulty in Malta’s Search and Rescue Region (SRR).
The Spaniard was transferred to Haywharf, Maritime Squadron Base in Pietà by SAR launch Melita I.
He was found to be in good health and did not require medical assistance.
He was welcomed by the Spanish Ambassador to Malta, José Pons.
