Final delivery of 62 public transport buses made

Malta public transport receives third and final delivery of 62 buses, bringing total of new buses up to 142

Malta Public Transport has announced that it received the third and final delivery of 62 new buses earlier today.

The final delivery brings the total of new buses to 142 in time for the planned launch of the new routes, which will start this Sunday 13th September.

In a statement issued by the company, it was revealed that the first delivery of 80 buses was made it to Malta earlier this summer and the buses were immediately put into service thus increasing the overall capacity of the network.

“The Turkish company Otokar has built the new buses purposely for the Maltese public transport network,” the statement reads.

“The buses are shorter and narrower than the older buses already in the network and they are easier to maneuver on certain routes,” it adds pointing out that some of the older vehicles are being replaced.

The statement adds that the new buses have so far received very positive comments from drivers and the general public.

“The Otokar buses are low floor, providing easy access for wheelchairs and less mobile passengers,” the statement reads, adding that the buses have a capacity of 60 passengers and are equipped with Euro 6 engines, “the very latest standards for environmentally friendly public transport,” it assures.

The new routes are planned to come into effect on Sunday 13 September and the company adds that customers are invited to enquire on the customer care helpline 2122 2000 for more information on the new buses and on the new routes.
