PN announces Independence Day activities
Nationalist party announces Independence Day festivities programme
The Nationalist Party has announced its programme for Independence Day festivities. The activities range from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September, and the chosen theme will be the 135 years of PN in Malta.
“This year, which marks the 51st year of independence, the festivities will take place in the entrance to Valletta, where the day used to be celebrated in the 70s,” a PN statement reads.
“The idea behind the location is a celebration of democracy and of the openness of the party,” it said, explaining that the celebrations would go to the Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Pjazza de Valette and by the new Parliament building.
The PN noted that the day was a commemoration of all the country’s achievements including Independence as well as Malta’s accession into the EU among others.
“Political activities will commence on Thursday and continue every day until Sunday evening, where they will reach their culmination in a mass meeting addressed by PN leader Simon Busuttil,” the statement adds.
A number of sport and entertainment activities are also planned at Pjazza Teatru Rjal.
