The customs department has announced that it will be launching a new IT system for the national export sytem.
In a statement the department said that it had left the change-over until this weekend given that it is a public holiday, to ensure as little disturbance to business as possible.
The statement added that the current system would be switched off on Friday 18th September at 4pm, and that MITA employees would be instructing customs employees to transfer data onto the new servers between Friday 18th September and Tuesday 22nd September, even through the night.
“The new system will be up and ready to use by early Tuesday morning, and any urgent export between the 18th and 22nd September will require a hand-written declaration, unless an electronic declaration is filled in before the system is switched off,” the statement reads.
It further adds that the department would be offering a free emergency service to process manual declarations and that anyone who wished to use this service could contact 2568 5150 or 2568 5051.
“The declarations have to be presented to the appropriate officials as usual and other services related to the processing of these manual declarations will be sent under the same procedures,” it said apologizing for any inconvenience.
