Muscat calls for European-African measures to address migration
During Malta-Ghana bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat says European and African countries should discuss joint measures to address migration
A bilateral meeting was held between Malta and Ghana with the issue of migration topping the discussions.
The meeting was held in New York where Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is participating in the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Assembly will likely focus on the immigration debate and how the United Nations can play an active role in dealing with the conflicts in the refugees’ countries of origin.

Following Muscat’s meeting with Ghana president John Dramani Mahma, the prime minister took to Twitter and said that he “shared thoughts about migration” with the Ghanaian premier.
In a statement, the government said that during the meeting, Muscat said European and African countries should use the forthcoming Valletta Summit as a platform to discuss joint measures to address migration.
Muscat also discussed how Ghana’s economy is moving forward and that this has resulted in persons from other African countries seeking refuge in the West-African nation. This, Muscat said, showed that African countries that are experiencing problems in their country could see that instead of Europe, they have a future in other African countries.
Notwithstanding this, the prime minister said that this also highlights the need for Europe to help all African countries, and not just the poor countries.
