A new monument at Castille Square that symbolises the unity between Africa and Europe will be inaugurated during next month’s Valletta summit for migration, the government said.

In a statement, the government said the monument would represent the geographic reality between the two continents.

The marble monument, the work of artists Vince Briffa, will be two metres high and will weight approximately six tonnes.

Works on the monument are currently being carried out in Chiampo, Italy. The marble used is the same which was used to construct Michelangelo’s David and La Pietà masterpieces.
