Nationalist MP Charlo Bonnici has announced he will not contest the 2018 general elections.

Announcing his decision during a social activity, and reconfirming it on Facebook, the PN spokesman for hunting and trapping said that he will not seek re-election.

“It wasn’t an easy decision and I have put a lot of thought into it. I will retain my seat in parliament until the end of the legislature and I will continue helping the PN,” the MP said.

Bonnici was first elected to Parliament in 2008, a year after was elected deputy mayor of Attard local council. Bonnici was re-elected to Parliament in 2013 by casual elections.

Bonnici is employed within construction magnate Zaren Vassallo’s management.

He is so far the third Nationalist MP to publicly declare his intentions not to run for the 2018 elections – following Gozitan MP Frederick Azzopardi and Giovanna Debono, who resigned the PN parliamentary group after her husband was arraigned in court with 13 charges, including misuse of public funds.
