Around €5 million in EU funds has been allocated on installing a drainage system at Vjal il-Haddiem, Rabat, and on resurfacing the Rabat road.

Addressing a press conference at the site, EU funds parliamentary secretary Ian Borg said that the project will finally see some 800 Bahrija residents connected to Malta's drainage system.

"This road used to be the topic of bickering between the Rabat local council and then-transport minister Austin Gatt over whether the government or the local council should foot the bill for its resurfacing," Borg said. "This government believed that €5 million was way out of the local council's price range."
