Water Services Corportaion (WSC) ordered to pay the sum of €5,641.73 in damages to a Gozo couple after an overflow of drainage caused damage to their residence.

The incident took place on 27 December 2004, when at around 1am Michael and Grace Camilleri realised that drainage was overflowing from a one of their toilets which resulted in three of four feet of drainage covering the entire floor.

The couple claimed compensation for damage to the mosaic floor which totalled Lm 1,360 to purchase new materials and Lm 1,060 for labour to replace the flooring, a total of Lm 2,422 or €5,641.73.

The court, presided over by magistrate Paul Coppini, found WSC responsible for works carried out by a private contractor some days before the incident which were not carried out properly and resulted in a blockage in front of the couple’s residence in Triq San Blas, Nadur.
