210 people in employment earning full disability pension

16,234 people receive a widows’ pension, 4,954 people receive a non-contributory age pension, and 91 people receive a carers’ pension.

210 people with a disability are benefitting from a recent scheme that allows people to keep their full disability pension upon finding employment.

The information was tabled in Parliament by social solidarity minister Michael Farrugia in response to a parliamentary question by Labour whip Godfrey Farrugia.

The scheme was introduced in the Budget for 2015 as part of the government’s attempts to boost the low employment rate of people with disabilities.

In response to a series of separate PQs by Labour backbencher Silvio Parnis, Farrugia said that 2,976 people are currently on a disability pension.

Elsewhere, 16,234 people receive a widows’ pension, 4,954 people receive a non-contributory age pension, and 91 people receive a carers’ pension.
