Mario de Marco, deputy leader of the Nationalist Party, yesterday underwent surgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.

The purpose of the surgical intervention was to remove a benign tumour located along the facial nerve.

“The operation was successful. Dr de Marco will resume his professional and political duties in a few weeks’ time,” the Nationalist Party said.

De Marco assumed the deputy leadership role in 2013, and today is shadow minister for finance. He was formerly minister for tourism, environment and culture and is the son of the late Guido de Marco, President of Malta and a former deputy prime minister.
