As Malta prepares to host the 2015 Commonwealth heads of government meeting amid increased security, the Malta Developers Association warned against “any alarmism that could do more damage than needless over-caution”.

The MDA is “looking forward in great anticipation” to the CHOGM.

“We want to give the best welcome possible to all those who will be in Malta for this momentous CHOGM, firm in the island’s reputation of neutrality that we are a safe haven for all,” the MDA said in a statement.

The MDA appealed to the government to ensure it takes all the precautions necessary in the interests of the country’s security and for everyone to co-operate to ensure that, just as in 2005 when Malta acquitted itself admirably, so too in 2015 once again the event will be a resounding success.

“Malta stands to reap a great dividend, further reinforcing the positive feeling there is for the country worldwide. CHOGM is a great opportunity for the country from which every citizen can benefit greatly,” the MDA added.
