Valletta local council denounces PL councillor who compared PN to ISIS

Valletta local council distances itself from Labour councillor Ray Azzopardi after the latter likened the Nationalist Party to terror group Islamic State

A Valletta councillor who likened the Nationalist Party to the Islamic State and said that the country should be afraid of Nationalists has been accused of insulting his fellow councillors and the Valletta population.

In a statement this morning, the Valletta local council distanced itself from its Labour councillor Raymond Azzopardi, after the latter posted a picture of the Nationalist Party’s coat of arms on his Facebook page replacing the words PN with ‘ISIS’.

The council also said that Azzopardi had commented that the Opposition was doing more harm to Malta than the Islamic State.

While denouncing the comments, the council insisted that such declarations should never be accepted and that it does not share the same opinion. Moreover, it held that the comments were insensitive and hurtful to other councillors who formed party of the PN and an insult to the representative majority of Valletta residents in the council.

On Saturday, Azzopardi urged the local council to shed some light on a robbery which took place at the council’s premises on Monday, during which approximately €1,050 were stolen.
