Gozo Business Chamber president awarded medal on Republic Day

The Gozo Business Chamber's President Michael Grech was honoured on Republic Day when he was presented with the Medalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika (Medal for Service to the Republic) by President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca during the presentation of awards ceremony held at The Palace in Valletta yesterday.

Presiding over the Investiture Ceremony at The Palace, Valletta, Coleiro Preca paid public tribute to a number of Maltese citizens who distinguished themselves in different fields of endeavour, by appointing them to The National Order of Merit or to the Xirka Ġieħ ir-Repubblika, or by awarding them the Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika. 

Grech is one of the leading businessmen in Gozo and has been involved in several philanthropic organisations as well being a member of the supervisory council of the Community Chest Fund.

He has also been president of the GBC for the past four years and is currently the vice president of INSULEUR (Network of the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the European Union), while also holding his position as chairman of the Gozo Regional Council.

During the Ceremony yesterday, twelve members were appointed to The National Order of Merit, two of whom received the award on an honorary basis. One person was awarded the Midalja għall-Qlubija and eleven other individuals and groups were awarded the Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika.  Two of the latter were awarded posthumously, one of whom was awarded on an honorary basis:
