Public transport route changes to be completed by 20th December
Transport minister Joe Mizzi announces that final changes to public transport routes are to be implemented by Sunday 20th December
Transport minister Joe Mizzi has said that the final phase of the project to change public transport would be completed by next Sunday 20th December, with many of the new routes already being implemented.
Speaking at a meeting with local council representatives and councilors earlier today, Mizzi said that these changes would men that public transport will reach more people and more frequently.
He added that the routes had been decided after extensive consultations and that the results included entirely new routes besides changes to existing ones.
“Buses will be undergoing an additional 2.5 million kilometers a year and that 142 newly equipped buses were introduced to accommodate the new routes and to pollute less,” he said.
Speaking about the difficulties yet to be faced in the new ticket systems, he said that public transport was already showing signs of improvement, with services and routes in Gozo going on without any hiccups.
According to the statement, those at the meeting were given leaflets that will also be distributed at Maltese residences in the coming days to show potential commuters a full list of the new routes to be introduced by 20th December.
