26 arrested during New Year’s Eve drug bust

Police arrest 26 people after finding them in possession of cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis at New Year's Eve parties 

26 people were arrested last night after police found them in possession of cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis, home affairs minister Carmelo Abela said.

Speaking during a meeting with police commissioner Michael Cassar, Abela said that police searched 125 people at various New Year’s Eve parties.

The police vice-squad carried out 16 investigations at Paceville nightclubs, but found no underage people inside. Traffic police stopped over 830 cars in inspections that uncovered 89 minor contraventions.  Several breathalyser tests were conductefand most proved negative.

No serious incidents or accidents occurred last night. Both Abela and Cassar praised the police for their professional and dedicated work.
