PN question impartiality of Broadcasting Authority after term of members expires
PN spokesperson Clyde Puli says impartiality of Broadcasting Authority is being brought into question after term of Broadcasting Authority and members expires
The Nationalist Party has today questioned the impartiality of the Broadcasting Authority to review cases concerning the PBS newsroom after the terms of the Authority’s members expired without any replacements being made.
In a statement, the PN – who on Saturday filed a protest against PBS for broadcasting Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s video message for the new year – said the Broadcasting Authority and impartiality are not important for Muscat after the latter allowed the term of the chairman and the members of the Broadcasting Authority to expire on December 31, 2015.
The party’s spokesperson, Clyde Puli, said that because of the government’s failure, the Broadcasting Authority was not in a legitimate position to take important decisions, especially those concerning the PBS newsroom.
The Prime Minister is expected to carry out his constitutional duties without delay and appoint a new board following consultation with Opposition leader Simon Busuttil in order to safeguard the democratic process, Puli said.
