Speaker wins award for ‘commitment to Mediterranean region’

Anglu Farrugia wins Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean award for 'commitment to Mediterranean region' and 'advocacy in favour of parliamentary independence and diplomacy' 

Malta’s Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia has been awarded the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Award for 2015.

In a letter, the assembly’s secretary-general Sergio Piazzi told Farrugia that he had won the award in view of his “continuous commitment to the Mediterranean region” and his “advocacy in favour of parliamentary independence, parliamentary diplomacy and the strengthening of the relations with civil society and the citizens”.

The decision was taken unanimously following consultations within the bureau and first standing committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

The presentation ceremony will take place in the Albania capital of Tirana on occasion of the tenth plenary session of the parliamentary assembly of the Mediterranean, which will be hosted in the Albanian parliament
