The first day centre for dementia sufferers in the country opened its doors earlier today in Ghajnsielem, Gozo.

The centre will offer daily services to a maximum of 10 elderly people living with their relatives, who are unable to stay at home with them during the day.

Transport to and from the centre will be provided to elderly people in the morning and afternoon.

“The centre was opened thanks to collaboration between the government and the Church, and extensive work rendered the building a dementia-friendly environment," parliamentary secretary for active ageing Justyne Caruana said during the official launch. "This building offers a secure environment to people with dementia."
