Mars orders recall of chocolate products from 55 countries, including Malta, after plastic pieces were found in a Snickers bar

Chocolate maker Mars has ordered a recall of its chocolate products in 55 countries, including Malta, after pieces of plastic were found in a Snickers bar in Germany.

A Mars spokesperson said that all of the recalled products – which include Mars, Snickers and Milky Way bars – were manufactured at a Dutch factory in Veghel.

The recall follows a complaint on 8 January by a consumer in Germany, who had found red plastic in a Snickers bar and sent it back to the company. Subsequent investigations traced the plastic back to the Dutch factory.

They also advised customers not to eat any Mars or Snickers bars or Celebration boxes with best before dates from June 2016 to January 2017, as they may contain plastic.
