At least 138 self-harmed, attempted suicide by overdosing in 2015

At least 138 people self-harmed or attempted suicide by overdosing on drugs last year.

Health minister Konrad Mizzi revealed in response to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Claudio Grech that 296 people were hospitalised last year after overdosing on drugs. Out of these, 138 had overdosed intentionally, while 23 had suffered from accidental poisoning.

Hospital staff were unable to determine whether the remaining 135 cases were intentional or accidental.

Grech had also asked Mizzi to separate the cases according to the patients’ ages, but that information was not included in the final response.
