Italian police confiscate a tonne of fish exported from Malta
A Maltese man has been fined and had his van confiscated together with one tonne of fish, exported from Malta after Italian police declared the cargo "dubious origin."
The van was intercepted by the Guardia di Finanza and the Coast Guard during an inspection at Pozzallo harbour in Sicily.
One tonne of fish of "dubious origin" and without any documents to cover the cargo, was confiscated, after an admission by the driver that the fish was to be delivered to a Sicilian company, with intent to distribute and put on the market.
While the value of the confiscated fish remained unknown, the driver was fined €1166.
