Auditor General Anthony Mifsud will be succeeding judge Joseph Said Pullicino as Ombudsman, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced on Twitter.

The Prime Minister is currently in London with Commonwealth leaders to mark Commonwealth Day.

Muscat also said that Charles Deguara will be replacing Mifsud as Auditor General whilst accountant general Noel Camilleri has been promoted to deputy auditor general.

In a statement, the government said that the nominations were approved by both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. The formal vote approving the appointments will be taken in parliament on Wednesday.

Ombudsman Said Pullicino reached the end of his tenure this month. Said Pullicino was by unanimous resolution of the House of Representatives appointed Ombudsman in 2005. On 11 March, 2011, again by unanimous resolution, he was reconfirmed for his term as Ombudsman.
