Tourism police scheme to start next month
Home affairs minister confirms that tourism police will be deployed in Sliema and St Julians as of next month
Tourism police will be deployed to St Julians and Sliema as from April, home affairs minister Carmelo Abela confirmed.
Responding to a parliamentary question by Opposition MP Censu Galea, Abela said that such police officers will be deployed to other popular tourist zones in the future.
The rationale behind the scheme, which has been in the pipeline since 2014, is to provide tourists with information about Maltese law and customs. Tourism police must be trained in tourism and consumer rights, and be well informed of tourist attractions in their vicinities.
