The faithful yesterday paid their last respects to former Archbishop Guzeppi Mercieca, who died aged 87 earlier this week. Archbishop Charles Scicluna celebrated the funeral mass at St John's Co-Cathedral. Mercieca was interred at the cathedral in Mdina.

Brothers Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui have been identified as the two suicide bombers who attacked Brussels' Zaventem airport on Tuesday. A manhunt is still underway for a third suspect, who was spotted on CCTV in the airport with the brothers before the incident.

Lorenzo Vella, a Maltese man who was injured in the terror attacks in Brussels this week, said that he had no intention of leaving Belgium because of the incidents, which left some 35 people dead and hundreds injured.

The police have not investigated government contracts involving energy minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, saying that there was no reasonable suspicion that a crime had been committed.
