Over 10,000 people walked across Malta for the 13th consecutive Good Friday pilgrimage last night.

As has become tradition, the crowds gathered at the Mellieha parish church at 2am and walked across the island, arriving at Senglea at around 7am.

The 30km walk was in aid of Puttinu, with each pilgrim asked to donate €10, meaning that the cancer support group raised over €100,000 this year.

The Puttinu fund-raising effort will continue tonight with a marathon on Xarabank. A record €936,976 were raised during last year’s telethon.
