Updated | Roads to airport briefly closed because of 'suspicious' luggage

Access to airport blocked after the discovery of 'suspicious' luggage sparked a bomb alert this afternoon

Authorities said roads around the Malta International Airport were briefly closed because of a suspicious luggage in a taxi which was driving towards the terminal.

The bomb alert was sparked during a routine search using police dogs in a road block outside the airport. 

The army's bomb disposal unit was called on site but folloing a search on the taxi occupants and their belongings nothing suspicious was found.
