Professor Peter Xuereb, Malta’s candidate to the European Court of Justice, has been successfully approved by a panel of experts.
Xuereb was Malta’s second nomination after Chief Justice Silvio Camilleri failed the screening process.
In a statement, the government expressed its confidence that Xuereb will now be officially nominated by Member States on May 24.
Xuereb’s approval would mean that Malta will have three sitting judges, two at the EU’s General Court and the other at the European Court of Justice: “This would be a first.”
Xuereb is the head of the Department of European Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Malta. He has served as consultant in different legal fora locally and overseas.
