The Malta chamber of commerce, enterprise and industry and the Algerian chamber of commerce and industry today signed a memorandum of understanding at a business forum organized by Trade Malta.

The agreement aims to internationalise Maltese companies,  products and services through various support measures.

This visit was organised in account of a series of visits and initiatives which Trade Malta have taken in order to promote business exchanges between Malta and Algeria, and it was attended by some 45 Algerian entrepreneurs together with more than 100 representatives of Maltese companies.

Economy minister Chris Cardona, who presided over the MOU signing, hailed the event as, “a clear sign that the efforts of the Maltese Government and the private sector, through a public private partnership like Trade Malta, are paying off.”

“It is through such events, and similar activities organised by Trade Malta over these past twelve months, that Malta-based companies are given serious opportunities to network and do business with their counterparts from emerging markets,” Cardona said.

Cardona has been working closely with Trade Malta over the past year – attending a number of trade missions in Algeria, Albania, Lebanon and Jordan.

“This marks the third meeting between Maltese and Algerian entrepreneurs in a span of six months, after visits by the Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat last November, and the President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca in January,” Cardona said.

Trade Malta President David G. Curmi noted how the PPP is adopting a strategy of following-up and co-coordinating events with a particular well-chosen territory, a strategy which has proven successful with some Maltese companies now or soon to be doing business in Algeria.
