Nisa Laburisti urges women’s groups to fight degrading sexist language
Labour women’s branch Nisa Laburisti urges women’s groups to raise awareness about disrespectful and degrading sexist language
Nisa Laburisti has urged national women’s groups to raise awareness about disrespectful and degrading sexist language in the wake of a comment tweetd by the Times of Malta blogger Andrew Borg Cardona, during which he referred to Malta’s Eurovision contestant Ira Losco as a “bitch”.
The lawyer said he had mistakenly sent out a tweet to Nationalist party radio host David Thake: “Can you imagine the feel good factor if the bitch wins?” before calling referring to prime minister Joseph Muscat as a “motherf****”.
“Influential people who have a role in the public eye need to learn that sexist language doesn’t make anyone look good, neither in a public nor in a private setting,” NL president Claudette Abela Baldacchino said.
NL said all women’s groups should come together to spread the message around the country on the effects of sexist language.
