16 year-old charged with €30,000 theft from mother's house to 'please' adult lover

Girl placed on probation after stealing €30,000in gold and cash from mother's house

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with the theft of more than €30,000 in cash and gold from her mother's house and handing it over to her 20 year-old lover.

The girl – not identified as she is still underage – is from Marsa, and was described as being ‘naïve’ and ‘infautated’ by her lover who lives not far from her mother’s house.

According to the police, the girl stole €15,000 in cash and €16,300 in gold from her mother’s house and passed it on to her elder lover.

It transpired that only €2,000 actually belonged to the girl's mother, as rest of the cash belonged to her mother's partner, who is currently in prison.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius who prosecuted said that the girl used to tell her lover that a lot of cash and gold were kept in her mother's house. He asked many questions and eventually led her to start stealing some of the cash and jewelery and handing it over to him.

The girl's mother renounced criminal action against her daughter and was placed under probation for three years as she will be testifying against her now former lover.

Later, police charged the alleged ‘lover’ who  pleaded not guilty to being an accomplice in theft and receiving stolen property, including selling off the stolen gold.

The court ordered he be kept under arrest at Corradino prisons.
