Mobile app for government services planned for 2017
Civil service head Mario Cutajar launches green paper on mobile app for government services
Civil service head Mario Cutajar announced plans to launch a mobile app for government services by March 2017.
The proposed app will also allow people to fill in forms, make payments through their smartphones, and speak to civil servants via a live chat service.
Launching a green paper on mobile government (mGovernment) for public consultation, Cutajar said that the app is intended to improve transparency and efficiency.
“Through the app, the public will be able to become more directly involved with important decisions that affect their lives,” he said.
Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) executive chairman Tony Sultana said that more people currently access the internet on their mobile phones, rather than on their computers.
He said that mGovernment is intended to combine all government’s electronic services into one app, which will then redirect the user to the appropriate channels.
