Moviment Graffiti denounces 'brutal' tree uprootings
The Moviment Graffiti has condemned the "brutal uprooting" of trees from a roundabout in Hal Tarxien and urged ELC to stop its actions.
Moviment Graffitti in a statement today condemned the 'brutal' chopping and uprooting of around 20 trees from Tarxien roundabout by the Environmental Land Consortium.
The pressure group said that ELC was instructed by Transport Malta to uproot trees from a number of roundabouts. The Tarxien/Santa Lucia roundabout is undergoing the same fate, where shrubs and plants have already been destroyed and 10 more trees are currently being uprooted.
"The uprooting of trees by the ELC contradicts the effort done by the 'Tree for you (34U)' campaign on behalf of which Resources Minister George Pullicino welcomed visitors at the Salina park last Sunday. He stated that the outcome of the campaign were 95 000 newly planted trees in 5 years," Moviment Graffitti said.
According to Moviment Graffiti, the uprooting of trees is discouraging the public from taking care of trees and planting new trees.
