Shipping company ordered to pay Transport Malta €14,541
A shipping company was ordered to pay €14,541 in compensation to Transport Malta after abondoning a vessel in Marsamxett Harbour last year.
In a judgement delivered by Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon who presided over the First Hall of the Civil Court upheld a writ by Transport Malta urging Island Ferry Three Company Limited to pay up a series of charges which had accumulated over time due to the abandoning of a 53 metre freighter Mecklenburg.
The vessel was struck off the Maltese Shipping Register on August 19, 2009 and was also declared as laid up in September of the same year.
The ship was also sold by auction.
Nobody appeared for the company while the case was heard leaving no option for the courts to liquidate the sum of €14,541 in favour of Transport Malta.
