Women’s Facebook group back online
Administrator of the Women for Women Facebook group says ban has been withdrawn
Facebook has reversed its ban and the Women for Women group on the social media platform is back online.
Administrator and founder Francesca Fenech Conti said Facebook itself had been “shocked” at how the page had been shut down in the first place.
“Their words were ‘we put it under a special category in our system so that the complaints that are made are vetted and investigated each time’,” Fenech Conti said, relaying a message received.
The women’s group, which boasts over 9,000 members, was abruptly shut down on Thursday, based on a complaint that it had violated Facebook’s terms of use.
The ‘Women for Women’ group was set up by women, allowing them to share all kind of discussions, ideas, suggestions and even help support a charity or give other women a friendly ear.
The incident took place after the Women’s Rights Foundation, supported by 102 women, filed a judicial protest calling for the licensing of emergency contraception.
