April sees increase in nights spent by tourists in Malta
Total guests in collective accommodation establishments during April 2016 decreased by 0.1 per cent, while total nights spent increased by 1.8 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2015
In April, total guests in collective accommodation establishments numbered 143,009, while total nights spent amounted to 737,157, the National Statistics Office said.
Collective accommodation categories registered increases in total nights spent, with the exception of 5-star and 3-star hotels. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 363,790 nights, or 49.4 per cent of the total.
The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went up to 5.2 nights in April 2016 from 5.1 nights in the same month of 2015. The net use of bed-places stood at 65.8 per cent, up by 2.4 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month last year.
On a national level, there were 164 active collective accommodation establishments during April, with a net capacity of 17,149 bedrooms and 37,853 bed-places.
January-April
Total guests during the first four months of 2016 amounted to 437,145, an increase of 4.3 per cent over the same period in 2015. Total nights spent went up by 5.2 per cent, reaching almost 2.3 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 0.7 percentage points to 52.0 per cent.
