The main suspect in the brutal murder of Eleanor Mangion Walker – her husband Andrew Mangion – remains under supervision and psychiatric care at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Police are awaiting the psychiatrist’s approval before continuing to interrogate Mangion and move to arraign him in court. Mangion is suspected of having killed the mother-of-one at a garage in Swieqi before driving to Qormi to dump the body in a warehouse which was no longer in use. The police found the body following a tip-off, allegedly coming from a close relative whom Mangion contacted to help dispose of the body. Refusing to help, the individual reportedly immediately contacted the police.

Mangion is under “constant watch” at Mt Carmel hospital, where he was admitted after he turned himself in almost two days after his estranged wife was found dead in a Qormi warehouse.

It has since emerged that the body was found wrapped in plastic and hidden under a pile of wooden pallets.

A relative who Mangion had asked for help in disposing of the body, reported the murder to the police. Sources believe that Mangion's original plan was to dump the body into the sea.

An autopsy concluded that Mangion Walker died due to grievous head injuries inflicted by a hard object.

But police are now understood to be considering the possibility that a weapon similar to a hatchet could have been used, although the no murder weapon has been found as yet.

It is reportedly common practice for investigators to refrain from questioning a person recovering in hospital until experts have given the go ahead.

Investigators yesterday are said to have continued to reinforce their theory that Eleanor Mangion Walker was killed elsewhere and then taken to the warehouse.

Police are reported to still be trying to locate two cars normally used by the suspect, after his white van, which was most likely used to transport the body to the warehouse, was found yesterday in San Gwann.

Forensic experts examined the van for any kind of evidence.
