A Serbian construction worker has been charged with robbing €3,950 from a betting shop in Triq ix-Xatt, Msida earlier this morning.
Dejan Lijeskic denied all charges but was remanded in police custody after he failed to request bail.
The break-in took place at around 5am this morning, while the shop was closed, but police were quickly alerted once the shop’s burglar alarm went off.
Lijeskic was arrested at a construction site in Testaferrata Street, Gzira, where he was found hiding.
Police inspectors Saviour Baldacchino and Mark Mercieca prosecuted, while lawyer Benjamin Valenzia acted as legal aid. Magistrate Francesco Depasquale presided the man’s arraignment.
