Vacating of Tigné families for Midi cost government €4.2 million

Families living in Tigné were paid a total of €4.28 million to vacate their homes at the former military barracks, to make way for the Midi project on Tigné Point.

A reply to a parliamentary question this week revealed that former minister Francis Zammit Dimech, as minister responsible for development and infrastructure, had paid the sum to the families rather than relocating them into government housing.

This was a condition for the 99-year lease of land at Tigné for Midi plc, which had to be given to the developers with vacant possession.

On its part government was paid cash premiums of €58 million, public infrastucture works of €22 million, and a restoration of Fort Manoel and Fort Tigné of €13 million.

Midi pays €1.1 million every year in ground rent, which will rise to €2 million by year 26, and €2.2 million by year 51.

Why hasnt MIDI paid these millions to these families to vacate their homes? Midi is the one who has gained from this exercise.GonziPN is very liberal with the peoples money when it means that these moneys are being pumped into the pockets of certain individuals,it isnt the same when he is dishing out the wage rise, that magnificent sum of E1.16 is very comparable to his and the ministers hefty rise. I think Freemasonery is very rife in certain Maltese high class establishments.
