One-size-fits-all system not up to expectations - MUT
Union insists the new system, which changed drastically from a selective one to comprehensive schools using a one-size-fits-all educational system, failed to meet the expectations it generated.
The Malta Union of Teachers said it felt vindicated by the SEC results published on Wednesday which had proven that using a one-size-fits-all educational system without providing the necessary training and resources, was not going to give any improved results.
The latest results were very significant because they were the first ones from post-Junior Lyceum students, the union said.
The new system, which changed drastically from a selective one to comprehensive schools using a one-size-fits-all educational system, had failed to meet the expectations it generated.
The MUT said it was currently discussing the new Sectoral Collective Agreement with the government and it hoped that this would include the possibility for more flexible systems.
The union said that space, resources and professional flexibility should be considered to finally allow educators to match their professional status and to reach the maximum potential of the students entrusted to them.
