Opposition MP George Pullicino lashed out at WasteServ’s management, as he warned that people can once again smell stenches of rubbish when driving by Maghtab.

In his parliamentary adjournment, he pinned the blame on WasteServ’s management, for failing to expand the engineered landfill at Ghallis.

“They wanted to save money, so they stopped expanding the landfill at the same rate as it was a few years ago, and the consequence is that there isn’t enough space left in which to dump the rubbish,” the former environment minister said.

He said that Wasteserv’s management team was replaced by inexperienced and unqualified people for political reasons, following Labour’s election to government in 2013.

Pullicino also questioned whether domestic appliances dumped at civic amenity sites are still being exported, noting that he recently observed a “mountain” of fridges, freezers and ovens piled on top of each other at the Mriehel site.

“It’s a real shame that we are once again speaking about this problem,” he said.
