Local Councils Association under EU investigation
The Local Councils Association is currently under the scrutiny of the European Commission on “expensive” payments made to councilors who travelled to Brussels.
According to the newspaper Torċa following the European Commission’s investigation the Police Anti-Fraud Unit is investigating. The newspaper claims Police have already summoned a number of persons to question on the matter.
The newspaper claims the ongoing investigation revolves around the EC’s rising suspicion on a number of air passage receipts sent for refunding. The EC has deemed these invoices as “too expensive”.
The investigation started four years ago, back in 2006. Whilst the Anti-Fraud Unit did not want to comment on the subject, the President of the Local Councils Association Michael Cohen confirmed an investigation but did not elaborate.
However, he did not want to comment further, claiming “it is better to leave the investigation take its own course.”
