Whistleblower’s Act is ‘Bullshit’ – Alfred Sant

There is neither the seriousness nor the political will to effectively tackle corruption, former Labour leader Alfred Sant claims in an interview with sister newspaper Illum.

In the same interview, Former Prime Minister and Labour leader Alfred Sant unceremoniously dismisses the recent Whistleblower’s Act as ‘bullshit’.

“These structures are not enough, as with the law as it is, when someone knows (a complaint has been made) they can still cover their tracks.”

Sant suggests the Prime Minister should set ‘traps’ to expose corruption.

“If someone informs the Prime Minister about a corruption case, and the PM goes to the Commissioner, he would be giving a signal for the wrongdoing to be covered up,” he continues.

“The PM needs someone he can trust to conduct an administrative investigation; otherwise, no sooner is the green light given to an investigation, than the computers will be tampered with, and everything will get whitewashed.”

In the same interview Alfred Sant also reiterates his conviction – in the light of the unfolding European crisis – that it was not in Malta’s interest to enter the Eurozone.

He is right of course. If you report corruption - its basically just warning the corrupt that someone has pointed the finger on them. End result - and we have seen this over and over again - they will break off that finger and then continue as before. And you cannot expect GonziPN which is that the head of corruption, the instigator of corruption and the main beneficiary of this corruption to then stop corruption. You would have more luck getting a court of Nazis condemning Hitler.
