Tattoo artists use talent to ink people for equestrian cause
A tattoo shop in Mellieha will be inking people to help raise funds for a horse shelter in Gozo
A tattoo shop in Mellieha has come up with a unique idea of helping to raise funds for a horse shelter in Gozo by donating all profits from the tattoo activity of the day.
The GuyLee FamiLee tattoo studio, which has a history of raising funds for a good cause, will be open all day today in Triq il-Marfa, Mellieha.
Clients will be inked against a donation. The studio’s artists have also designed flash tattoos specifically for the cause, inspired by the Dreams of Horses Farm.
Tattoo artist Guy Lee will be donating 10% of his own business profit whilst a collection box has also been set up at the studio for individuals who would like to donate money without getting a tattoo.
The money raised will go towards the construction of a shelter to accommodate rescued horses and offer workshops space for visitors.
Situated in Xaghra, the farm already offers visitors the opportunity to get “a hands-on learning experience with farm animals” including miniature ponies, horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, ducks and so forth. Guests can pet and feed animals, milk goats, take part in the making of cheeselets, ride ponies and horses and learn how to interact with the animals.
The farm also provides horse-assisted activities to people with physical, social and emotional difficulties. Money raised through the activities also helps with the upkeep of the therapy facility.
The Dream of Horses Farm, managed by Victor Muscat, is seeking to raise €250,000 to help with the upkeep and upgrading of the farm as the number of rescued horses continues to rise.
