Parliament to get its own broadcasting studio
Speaker Anglu Farrugia announces broadcasting studio in Parliament foyer to record parliament events and programmes.
Parliament will get its own broadcasting studio to film parliamentary events and programmes.
The small broadcasting studio will be located in the parliamentary foyer, a location that Speaker Anglu Farrugia said reflects his intention to open the House to the public as much as possible.
He told a press conference at the new studio that the new project was rendered possible thanks to a new law that rendered Parliament financially autonomous from government.
“I am honoured to be the first Speaker under whom Parliament launched its own TV channel and opened committee sessions up to live streaming,” he said.
Farrugia said that the studio will be used to broadcast parliamentary events, such as various exhibitions that take place inside the house, as well as discussion programmes with MPs, NGOs, experts and students. All programmes will be aired on Parliament TV.
He announced that Parliament is currently in talks with a number of university deans, including dean of the faculty of social wellbeing Andrew Azzopardi, to collaborate on programmes. The first programme could be aired in the coming weeks.
Parliamentary press conferences related to Malta’s upcoming EU presidency will also be broadcast inside the studio.
The Speaker insisted that the studio will not be used to record partisan political programmes.
