The London Fire Brigade has donated a Mercedes 1325 fire-engine to the Emergency Response Corps, a Gozo-based voluntary organisation.

The handover took place at the Shadwell Fire Station in London, as part of a high-profile ceremony that was attended by Prince Charles, home affairs minister Carmelo Abela, and Malta’s High Commissioner to the UK Norman Hamilton.

The ERRC said in a statement that the fire-engine will now be driven over to Malta by a team of retired fire-fighters and that the vehicle would increase the NGO’s capability for fire and rescue services.

The ERRC is a voluntary organisation that acts as an auxiliary to the authorities in helping people in crisis. It offers services, first-aid, disaster response and civil protection services, as well as a range of training courses.
