Petrol stations could be out of fuel within 2 weeks
Weekly newspaper Torca reports that gas station owners are pushing for an increase to keep up with the rising expenses as well as to make good for certain changes that need to be carried out.
But Enemalta and the MRA seem to be holding fast. Gas station owners not only delivered a two week ultimatum however, but are also threatening that they will no longer buy fuel from Enemalta should the authorities not deliver a solution.
The consequences would be that gas stations would exhaust their stock of fuel within a few days, leaving drivers high and dry.
“We are tired of discussing,” sources told Torca. “We’ve been going on this like for a long time and we never get anywhere. They are saying that there shouldn’t be an increase in price so that we take in a higher commission. Their argument is that the market is liberalized, but in reality Enemalta is the only operator from which one can buy fuel.”
