Two arrested over €8,500 theft

Two men were sent back to prison after pleading not guilty to stealing €3,500 in cash and sound equipment worth €5,000.

25-year-old Ryan Camenzuli and 26-year-old Victor Degabriele were charged with theft that allegedly took place from a car parked in Tarxien on Wednesday night.

The men were charged with stealing concert tickets, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers and a stereo.

Camenzuli was also accused of committing a crime whilst he was in a period of suspended jail term. DeGabriele was in turn accused of breaching the conditions of a previous release and of committing a crime during the term of a suspended sentence.

Both men denied the accusations claiming they were never involved in the thefts and they had alibis showing they were not near the place at the time of the alleged theft.

Camenzuli and DeGabriele are now kept in preventive custody after being denied bail. Inspector Spiridione Zammit, who is leading the prosecution, said the two men could not be trusted and should be remanded in custody.
