Traffic study calls for speed cameras at Siggiewi bypass
Study funds that 85% of drivers on Siggiewi bypass exceed the speed limit, council calls for immediate installation of speed cameras
A study has concluded that speed cameras should be installed at the Siggiewi bypass, a finding that has been endorsed by the town’s local council.
The study, carried out by consultant Bjorn Bonello, found out that around 85% of drivers on Triq Mons. Mikiel Azzopardi exceed the speed limit.
In a statement, the Siggiewi local council that the road has witnessed several traffic accidents, including one fatal one, over the past three years.
“Now that the need for a speed camera in this street has been conclusively established, we urge the authorities to install it without any further delay so as to prevent further injuries and deaths,” Siggiewi mayor Karol Aquilina said. “We are taking this step so as to safeguard residents and drivers from people who drive dangerously.”
The study, which was carried out in collaboration with the Local Enforcement System Agency, has been passed on to Transport Malta.
